| Girl Tech Camp Session Activities |
| Animation |
| Students will explore the world of 3D animation. This course is designed to provide a hands-on learning experience in 3D Animation and video editing. The students will be introduced to the concepts of creating, modifying, and animating a computer scene using Autodesk 3DS Max’s environment and interface. Furthermore, the student will learn how to composite and edit videos, while adding special effects such as smoke, fire, and other visual effects using real-time 2D particle systems. |
| Auto Mechanics |
| Students will recognize the importance of checking and changing fluids – oil, coolant, power steering, trans fluid and brake fluid. The student will also check fluids on a vehicle. There will be a discussion on tire safety, tire care, and how to check tire air pressure, how to add air and also how to safely change a tire. Several students will change a tire. Several vehicles will be in the air so the students can see some of the different systems on a vehicle. There will be a discussion on new alternative fuel vehicles. |
| Computer Networking |
| The wireless session will allow students to use laptops to locate equipment in a treasure hunt. Students will learn about wireless technologies, and then use the technologies to locate treasure keys. After locating all of the treasure keys, they will use the keys to unlock the code to the final treasure. |
| Law Enforcement |
| Students will receive an overview of Campus Police work vs. Municipal Police work. The student will get be given a Squad Car Demonstration, a Tour of the Dispatch Center, a Tour of the Police Department, and a Tour of the Police Lock-up. |
| Robotics |
| Bill Gates states that “the robotics industry…is developing in much the same way as the computer business did 30 years ago. Some of the world’s best minds are trying to solve the toughest problems of robotics, such as visual recognition, navigation and machine learning. And they are succeeding.” This session will allow students to explore basic robotics and computer programming through a series of hands-on challenges. The students will work with a partner using LEGO Mindstorms robots to develop their own robot to solve different missions. No prior Lego Mindstorms building or programming experience is required. |
| Welding |
| Student will identify what welding is, where it is used, point out how welding enhances their everyday life. The student will be informed of union vs. non union; pay wages, benefits, etc. The students will receive an explanation on how the number of woman is increasing in the construction/trade jobs. Students will identify the types of welding, their differences and how they are used. They will receive a tour of the shop and a rough idea on what the machines do. They will watch a demo (something easy and safe, nothing that will scare them or damage their eyes). Finally, the students will be informed of the welding classes that are offered at MVCC, including handouts about the program. |
